The PRS McCarty Shoot out guitars were made for a test against Paul Reed Smith's own Vintage Gibson Les Paul's. The aim was to try out his new pickups, the 57/08 and see how close to the holy grail of vintage tone they could get. The "Shoot Out" was done at the Dallas Guitar Show, only 50 guitars were made and sold out woldwide soon after the shoot out. Headline Music, the UK distributor for PRS Guitars, commisioned a second limited run of these Shoot Out McCarty's, this time limited to just 10 Guitars. This is serial number 161773 which is number 6 out of 10 guitars made.
These guitars are the ultimate tone machines, the 57/08 pickups sound superb when combined with the specially selected mahogany body & neck. The special thin high-grade nitro finish really allows the guitar to breath and lets the vintage tones shine through.

PRS Guitars was founded by Paul Reed Smith in 1985, over 25 years later PRS is one of the leading and most respected guitar manufacturers in the world. Paul Reed Smith was inspired by the classic guitar designs of the 50’s and 60’s but, unlike many other manufactures, wanted to create a guitar that was his own design in every right. Today the classic double-cutaway PRS silhouette is as recognisable as some of the famous designs of the 50’s which is a true testament to Paul Reed Smiths design and vision. We have been selling PRS Guitars since the late 1980’s and have seen the company grow and develop but never forget their core values and dedication to quality and innovation. As PRS has grown they have maintained superior quality, something which they have become renowned for and have set the bar for other manufacturers. The PRS Custom 24 was one of Paul’s first designs and is the guitar that he took to his first trade show and is the model that really put PRS on the map. Nearly 25 years later the Custom 24 is still one of the most popular PRS models available. Over it’s long lifetime it has had many upgrades and changes to keep it at the forefront of the market. Paul Reed Smith is never complacent and is constantly trying new woods, components, construction methods and new technology. The Custom 24 is a different guitar to the model first introduced in the late 80’s but the core values and vision is still the same - create the best electric guitar possible. Today the PRS Product lineup is one of the most impressive in the market, there is a guitar for any genre, style and budget. One of the newest additions to the PRS family is the PRS Studio model. This is a model based loosely around the now discontinued Custom 22 but features the unique Studio electronics and Pickups, a 57/08 Pickup in the bridge and two Narrowfield mini humbuckers in the middle and neck. This is another example of PRS pushing the boundaries and trying new things. At Tone World we love PRS Guitars and are very passionate about their fabulous instruments.
